CLOSURE OF PERMISSIVE FOOTPATH
School Lane / Briar Lane
The Parish Council has been made aware that, despite clear signs and reminders, a minority of dog owners are not keeping their pets on a lead on the permissive footpath.
On Sunday 30th June a ewe was attacked and seriously injured by an off lead dog. (The ewe will hopefully recover).
As a result, the landowner has quite understandably informed us that, with regret, he is closing the permissive path with immediate effect.
All dog owners are reminded that they must keep their dogs on a lead in the vicinity of livestock. Allowing a dog to worry livestock is an offence under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, and the owner can be prosecuted and held liable for compensation.
Anybody wishing to cross between School Lane and Briar Lane on foot should use the footpath Heckingham FP2.
